I go through phases where I read quite.a bit and had 2 books that collected all of Lovecraft's work.
Took me a bit to get used to his style but found it really interesting how many of his works where before his time and how you can see their influence in many modern SC-FI and horror films.
I think the one that I remember the most was the festival. The images of them going into underground chasms, caves and stuff was great

A great story by King that was in the Lovecraft style was Crouch End. I loved the way the cab driver in the story described the town of Crouch End itself. Like the world was comparable to a football, and in some spots, the leather on the football is heavily scuffed...almost worn through. And in those spots, sometimes things from other dimensions are able to slip through. Crouch End is one of those spots. It's a great story.

My favorite writer since probably the end of high school. His writing is so imaginative and descriptive it was like he was there viewing and recounting what he himself saw and experienced personally. Pretty good for someone who never went to college and got a creative writing degree. He could write other genres when he wanted to. If anyone out there only has the horror anthologies, try and find the story "Sweet Ermengarde" in one of the complete anthologies. Very funny story not horror at all. He also included some very funny limericks that he wrote in some of his stories. Keep dictionary.com open on your phone when reading. HP liked using really fancy words at times, you can improve your vocabulary.
I now also read the authors and stories that HP read, authors like MR James and Algernon Blackwood and the gothic English and French horror writers of the late 1800's and early 1900's. They are a treasure trove of great stories, and also Weird Tales magazine. I've been so absorbed into that time era that my own amateur stories are usually set in those times or earlier. Too bad he couldn't live longer just as his career was starting to take off. Imagine if he could have lived into the era of being a screenwriter like Richard Matheson or people like that.
