Yes i know there are a handful of threads on this film already in this board but they are all buried beyond belief most from 2014 and all of those threads leave you wondering if NDX has yet watched this film. I recently sat down last week and chomped away on some popcorn as these four "kids" were slaughtered in the most unique ways even at today standards i dont think anyone is using meat hooks or meat mallets to kill their victims? "En route to visit their grandfather's grave (which has apparently been ritualistically desecrated), five teenagers drive past a slaughterhouse, pick up (and quickly drop) a sinister hitch-hiker, eat some delicious home-cured meat at a roadside gas station, before ending up at the old family home... where they're plunged into a never-ending nightmare as they meet a family of cannibals who more than make up in power tools what they lack in social skills..." | | | | Price: $10.99 | Price: $8.99 | Price: $31.63 | Price: $63.28 | Release: Sep 30, 2008 | Release: Sep 16, 2014 | Release: Sep 16, 2014 | Release: Oct 14, 2014 | Quality: Ok not great | Quality: Best for just the movie | Quality: Best deal for extras | Quality: Cool but the price |

endo, I watched it just over a week ago with gorepolice. I dozed off for a few during it because sleep has evaded me for the last few months, but what I did see was an crazy train, and I loved it.

70's and 80's horror movies were just so good - even the bad one's. i think today's budgets are so big and they have so much freedom and time that it ends up ruining any authentic creativity. guys like hooper, romero, and carpenter have stood the test of time. even in 100 more years they will still be great.
i don't know though, i kinda like the darker, grainy version.

Both versions have their merits. Seeing it crisp and clear as my first time gave me an appreciation for how the film was made. I think if I ran across a DVD copy used I'll pick it up to see it more like an underground horror that should not be seen.

My favorite thing was the higher quality added to the film... seen some films that had an hd scan done and it killed the practical effects

i'll be on the lookout for that version. i think i get what you guys are saying. it's a fine balance when they try to restore an old film - what to enhance and what not to enhance.
it's such a great film. some evil just can't be consoled and they just have to terrorize people. my fav line is from the second film when the girl says about the family, "they feed off fear."

Still need to see the second one. I think during the week I'll rewatch the first one and follow it up with the second.
