"I can't believe I'm having to write this," Wolf Van Halen began, "but my father Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning."
"Van Halen had been fighting throat cancer for well over a decade, reportedly flying between Germany and the United States to receive radiation treatments. In the last three days, doctors discovered that his cancer had spread from his throat to his brain and other organs, and his outlook rapidly deteriorated. TMZ reports that he passed away in Santa Monica's St. John's hospital with family members in the room. His son Wolfgang, his wife Janie and his brother and bandmate Alex were all at his bedside."
Everybody knows the name Eddie Van Halen, literally one of the greatest guitar players the rock world has ever seen. He and his brother Alex Van Halen started what would become one of the biggest bands in music. Van Halen was a band I grew up on when I was young, then David Lee Roth left and Sammy Hagar came in, and I still loved them. Only got to them live once, but it was incredible to watch Eddie Van Halen play live.
Really sad hearing this today. I knew he had cancer but last I heard he was pretty much beating it, so this was a shock to read. RIP to a true rock legend and condolences to his family.
