Automatons have been popular throughout history, and have often come in the shape of humans or animals. They are non-electronic in how they operate. This one dates from 1773. It's the famous Bowes Swan. "The life-size Silver Swan rests on a stream made of twisted glass rods interspersed with silver fish which are controlled by three complex clockwork mechanisms." See below for more information. www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk/Collection/Explore-The-Collection/The-Silver-SwanPerhaps you know of some?

Wow, that's amazing. The craftsmanship is impressive for today much less 1773. Crazy.
