"Hitcher In The Dark" is an Italian horror film that Umberto Lenzi directed under a different name, about a young man who is troubled about his mother leaving him and his father back when he was only 10 years old for a tennis pro, and moved back to Russia with the tennis pro. He still carries a picture of his mother with him everywhere he goes , out of missing her that much. He picks up a young female hitch hiker who resembles his mother, then decides to abduct and keep her prisoner because he doesn't want to lose her again, not getting the reality that the young girl is not his mother or even anybody to fill in for her. She tries to escape many times, but he is able to either stop her or find her shortly after in many different slick ways. The police do not believe the girl is really in any trouble but just another runaway because she had a nasty fight with her boyfriend right before she took off and disappeared. Her boyfriend begins searching all over for her after her sister received a brief call for help from her before she gets caught and abducted again fast. Even after the boyfriend does find her, he then gets shot, then they are both abducted by the troubled guy. There are a lot of twists and turns in this film, and it appears as if the abducter will get away with what he did, but then there is another big twist and turn that I will not get into detail with to avoid completely spoiling the ending for those who still have not seen this one. It has a similar plot and storyline to Stephen King's "Misery," only about a young guy abducting a young gal, and it takes place in a RV on the road. It shoul definitely appeal to those into "Misery" and most of Lenzi's work.
