"Subspecies V" is a prequel to the previous films in the series, starting back to when Radu was still a baby with his demon mother and his vampire father before being taken by the monks of the Church and raised as a mortal by the Church. Growing up, he had no idea about his bloodline and only knew he was raised in and by the Church. As he got older, he was eventually sent out to retrieve a bloodstone from an evil demon and an evil vampire who turn out to be his birth parents, whom he was taken from as an infant. They soon discover who he is, but he has no memory of them. After retrieving the bloodstone, they encounter a young mother with her small son imprisoned in the castle. The crusader with Radu says to kill them both, thinking they are both also vampires, but Radu differs, and helps them escape. After the other crusader with Radu gets killed off, Radu's father, the bigger and older vampire, appears to reclaim the young mother and her son as they leave him alone and stranded. Radu eventually slips into his old unknown roots as a vampire, discovering what it is actually like to be an undead vampire. After he becomes familiar with the customs, he eventually abducts a young traveling couple, and makes them his vampires. He teaches them the ways to make it as a vampire, and they soon escape. He spends 300 years searching for them before he finally finds them as regular entertainers at a big mansion. The owner of that mansion turns out to be a female vampire from Radu's younger times. Radu wants to reclaim the younger couple but they differ to it, accepting him as their first master, but not their current master. Radu then begs to bargain with the female vampire they are now living with. Out of the Full Moon features from recent years, this is definitely one of the better ones. It does not look so low budget like a lot of the other Full Moon features from the past decade do, but actually has a lot of amazing and cool looking costumes, make-up, and fake blood effects. The scenery is also very cool and creepy looking. There is also a lot of good drama, dialogue, and well developed characters. To those into the classic Subspecies series, this should not be a let down.
