"Violence Gives Him Hope" is a unique old school done right artsy and gory feature length serial killer film in black and white format with occasional bright color scenes. It has a nice cool looking grindhouse and giallo look and vibe to it. It starts off with a serial killer named Herman finding a dislocated foot in the back of his car from a victim, only he was unable to recall which victim it was from. A mechanic named Maurice breaks into Herman's house, trying to put a stop to Herman's killing spree, only Herman turns out to be a lot more slick and quick than expected. A Jehovah's Witness knocks on Herman's door to help spread the Good Word, only to fall victim instead. While being tied up in Herman's kill room, the Jehovah's Witness eventually figures out how to convert Herman into a Jehovah's Witness and to repent, along with getting himself free. After Herman has repented and converted, he goes door to door, trying to help spread the Good Word, only to get fed up with getting too many doors slammed into his face, and eventually snaps, turning back into a serial killer. The story also covers the Bone Man, a local talk show host, who discovers a dead body in the trunk of his car, but is already late for the screening of his next episode, and does not have time to worry about anything else. Later that night, he gets a visit from another serial killer named Orville who wants to know where the dead body is. After Orville finds the dead body, he knocks out the Bone Man and takes the dead body with him. The Bone Man is eventually woken up by a phone call from his upcoming guest on an upcoming episode of his talk show. The Bone Man eventually gets frustrated with the episodes of his talk show, along with no audience, then gives up, and decides to join the Mafia instead. When the Bone Man gets sent out to collect what people owe his Mafia boss or to shoot them, they all turn out to have already killed themselves by the times he got there. After playing Russian Roulette, he gets another visit from Orville, and taken to the Valley Of Humiliation. Orville explains how a friend of his and himself invented a little game where one kills somebody and hides the dead body for the other to find, and it was his turn to kill somebody and hide the dead body, and he chose to kill the Bone Man that time. He also gives the Bone Man a fighting chance to run from him, and the Bone Man turns out to have a rifle on him as well to shoot back at Orville. The shoot out scenes in this film are very intense and eye opening, like the shoot out scenes in the "Death Wish," "Kill Bill," and "John Wick" series. The Russian Roulette scene is also extremely intense. There is even a very bloody and gory scene with the serial killer Herman crushing the head of a dead victim with a large cinderblock. There are also a lot of twists and turns to keep interest throughout the film, along with plenty of humor to keep it entertaining as well. Those into grindhouse, giallo, and artsy serial killer films should not be disappointed with this one.
