I just looked back at "The Changeling," after not being able to remember what happened in that one. I am glad I looked back at it. It turned out to be a timeless classic that is perfect for this time of year. It starts out with an orchestra conducter losing his wife and daughter on the roadside with their car broke down while he is on a pay phone, calling for help. He then relocates across country with a new job at a University, and rents an old mansion that turns out to be haunted by an unknown spirit. Through a seance, the spirit turns out to be of a boy who died in the house. It then turns the boy was the old owner's actual son who got sick and was dying. The old owner would have been able to let his son inherit the mansion after his passing, but if the son were to die, the mansion would have just gone to charity. The old owner then secretly killed his dying son, then went to Europe to pick up another boy of the same age, claiming that to be his son who "miraculously recovered." There are then a lot of twists, turns, and more clues coming up to help the man solve the murder from around 70 years back, along with who the changeling actually is. There are also a lot of good scary haunted house scenes with doors creaking open, slamming shut, chandelier shaking, skeletal bones bones found in a buried well, and even fire spreading down the rails on a staircase. This is definitely a good classic haunted house themed horror film that may even be rated up with the original "Amityville Horror" and the like.

I'm not usually a fan of haunted houses or ghost stories, but this one is an undeniable classic. George C. Scott is brilliant in this. This is also the only horror movie my Mom likes
