The Godfather of Gore (not Fulci). HG Lewis' films are wacky as hell, but i love them! Theres just so much going on in them and even though they are nasty cheap films - that doesn't matter at all! I highly recommend his work for anyone with an open mind, and not hell bent on big budgets and great actors. Official Site

H.G. Lewis is awesome. I have Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, Color Me Blood Red, The Wizard of Gore and A Taste of Blood in my collection. Not the greatest films by any means, but most of his films are cheesy, bloody fun.

Have to get some of these, or at least rent them.

I'd recommend The Wizard of Gore for your first H.G. Lewis films. It's so ridiculously cheesy that you can't help but laugh.

HGL, i believe, started out making porn films first, then branched off making gore. Even though Fulci started making films just before HGL did, Lewis was the first to add gore. Gore as we now know it. Blood Feast was my first HGL film i saw, then i went on a bit of a bender and just bought Lewis films. Most on VHS at the time, which are now sadly unable to play, but im getting them back on dvd over time. Probably got about 12-14 films of his.

Lewis was also the first to make the gore so over the top and humorous.

As a fan of the absurd and bad, you will love it. The only one I'd probably steer clear of is A Taste of Blood. It's long and quite boring.
