"A dangerously disturbed Vietnam veteran struggles with life 15 years after his return home, and slowly falls into insanity from his gritty urban lifestyle."
This is a hard one to describe. Combat Shock features an overly long, boring intro, terrible acting and horrendous editing. Despite all these major flaws, I truly enjoy this film and plan on owning it at some point.
It was obviously made on a nothing budget ($40,000 according to what I've read) and features the director's brother in the lead role. The grittiness of it though is part of the appeal. This is a very depressing and nihilistic story of a man who can't get his life together after the war. It's ugly, but it's believable.
It has a bit of an Eraserhead vibe to it as well, which is part of what kept me interested. If you're curious, I'd recommend checking it out.

Gonna bump this and confirm the Eraserhead vibe. Nowhere near as disturbing or surreal, but it's in the same boat when it comes to obscure and strange storytelling. After borrowing it from Tomas, I knew I had to own it. It should not work at all, and yet, it really does. And nothing even happens until the end of the film.

That's the funniest part of all. Everything about it makes it a failure. By all accounts, this films should be considered absolute rubbish and one of the worst things ever, but the setting and...who even knows what else, just keep you so intrigued for whatever reason until that crazy ass ending.

It's worth it Dave. It's a film that you shouldn't enjoy, but for some reason, you just do. I really can't say I've ever felt the way I do about this film with anything else I've ever watched.
