I watch matches like this and think that if I hadn't grown up on Backlund, I might not have liked him nearly as much as I did. He was goofy, and really not great at working a match.
I loved him as a kid, but part of me wonders why sometimes. BTW, you don't think they told all those kids to storm the ring at the end of the match do you? Nah.

Hey, Backlund was one the greatest villains of my youth thanks to 1994 and his heel run and feud with Bret Hart. I still look back on that with great fondness.

I couldn't even watch all that. Couldn't believe Backlund had sold out and not only gone heel, which he said he would never do after dropping the title to the Iron Sheik in 83, but became such an unbelievable maniacal one. Just my opinion of course and I know a lot of folks liked that whole angle.
But, to me it was a complete slap in the face of his six year title run...goofy or not.
