Supposedly the only footage of this match around, so, sorry for the poor quality. Just thought it was cool to see Lawler in his element against a pre-Hulkamania Hogan.
From Memphis, 1981.

I kinda wish Hogan stayed heel in the 80s. He was a better wrestler then, if you ask me. I would love to have seen this whole match.
Although, we got some amazing matches from him during Hulkamania, so I ain't complaining.

Everybody jokes about Hogan only having three moves, well some are joking anyway. But some of his heel work and especially his work in Japan prove that he could work in the ring.
I don't know if he dumbed down his move set as a face to look that much more powerful and unbeatable or what. Loved this guy when he came into the WWF in late 81 with Blassie as his manager, he was awesome.

As a face, and the ultimate face at the time. he didn't need that many moves. He was more about telling a story rather than the actual wrestling. Now there were people that could do both (Savage), but Hogan didn't need to because he had America and a good portion of the world eating out of his hands. It was about getting the fans interested. He was Sports Entertainment before there was Sports Entertainment.
I love how he sold Lawler's punch. One think I liked about 80s heel Hogan, he oversold perfectly.

My favourite memory of him and most vivid is at King of the Ring and Bret Hart starting the Burger King chant. "The only kind of king you are is the BURGER KING! Burger king, burger king!" I also remember where he turned up oncrutches after hurting his leg. Can't remember if that was against Doink The Clown (A fave of mine), or Bret hart though. My memory is foggy.
Glad he's doing well after his heart attack.

Lawler had a great feud with Hart, every time they met it was sure to be entertaining. They definitely clicked and worked very well together.

Lawler has had great matches considering all he does is punch people. But, his character, his ability to tell a story, is what makes the matches good to great, a la Hogan.

Lawler was the Hulk of Memphis. Too bad they didn't get the exposure WWF did. The King was the ish.
