Right, first of all, this is not a Nintendo Bashing thread, I own a Wii U and its great, but with the recent news that Rayman Legends has gone multiplatform and Nintendo have lost exclusivity and activision openly slamming the console, is this a sign that third party developers are abandoning the console this early in its lifespan? We have the launch of two powerhouse consoles over the next 12-18 months which will almost certainly overshadow Nintendo's latest offering- I can definately see shades of the Dreamcast in the Wii U launch but what do you guys think, can Nintendo claw it back?

I think people are tired of the gimmicks. Sony and Microsoft have pretty much all but abandoned their motion sensor gadgets and focus more on the hardcore gamers. Technically, Wii U is already behind Sony and Microsoft because their system is only about as powerful (maybe even slightly less so) as the current generation of consoles and it's their first to use HD. With the ps4 coming out at the end of the year and the inevitable launch of the next X-box, it'll be even more outdated.
I looked at the Wii U and I haven't been impressed. I hate the idea of having the control be a screen as well. The thing is pretty huge and awkward for me, so I know I would never buy it. I imagine a lot of companies are annoyed at finding a way to implement 2 screens and whatever other gimmicks that thing is using. I mean, it's good for party games and when friends come over, but it's not really designed for solo hardcore gamers.
Dreamcast was a good, undersupported system that should have done better. I think in this case Nintendo really dropped the ball and that this system is going to be a failure.

The Dreamcast was a way underrated system. It had some solid games, my favorite being Seaman. What a whacked out, off the wall premise that was, and tons of fun to play. It seems like Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot quite a bit since they abandoned the cartridge format, first with the GameCube which is a great system, I think. But no one wanted to have to change the size of the discs to make games for it. PS2/3 and the Xbox/Xbox360 were using standard size discs, and here comes Nintendo with the little small ones.
Then the Wii, which is OK for what it is. My wife has one, but all she uses it for is My Fitness Coach. I personally don't want to have to clear the room to play a game. I want to sit down and concentrate on the game. I couldn't imagine playing a game of Madden on it And all the Wii characters just seemed geared to appeal to younger kids.
I haven't been impressed by what I've seen of the Wii U either.

Most of the game reviews have been average to bad, aside from their usual staples like Mario. Maybe it's just a slow start, but I think this is going to be one of Nintendo's rare failures.
