I've seen that before somewhere, and I get that basically everything is a re-telling or re-imagining of something else...I mean how many actual new ideas can be thought up between literature and film?
But, it's the blatant ripping off of an idea that makes me mad. It's the fact that it seems no thought or effort were put into some of the movies at all.
Wes Craven has made a career of reworking movies, but doing it right. I mean, wasn't Wes Craven's They a twist on Don't Be Afraid of the Dark? Only instead of monsters that come out of the fireplace and basement they come out of the mirrors in dimensions we can't see? Really, wasn't Freddy a reworking of the possession angle, only he got you when you were asleep and forced his will, like making Jesse kill in part 2.
I have no issue with new horror, or indie horror. Evil Dead was indie horror filmed on a shoestring budget with all college kids, and it's one of the greatest horror movies of all time. But, it was fresh. It took possession and put a new spin on it.
I'm just ranting, lol. But you get the point. I don't hate new movies, just the ones that take the easy way out. I'll never back a movie that cheats. Do it right or don't do it.

Not to mention that just because something is different or original, doesn't automatically make it good. Plenty of movies I like are ideas I've seen before, it's all about presentation. What was done differently, what was done better, so on and so forth.
A lot of films now just seem to be of the mindset that "Well, this is popular, let's crank out one of these to cash in on the craze." It's the reason I'm sick to death of zombie films right now. Nothing new is going on there, but people keep pumping them out like clockwork because they can earn a few bucks off of it.
