Who's a fan of this TV show then? I used to watch it with my older brother when I was younger and probably because of that, I have really fond memories of this B movie TV flick. Funny thing is, I always liked the intro more than the episodes lol. On the other hand, those were pretty fun too. I think it's important to have some tongue-in cheek approach even when it comes to horror.

I really liked it. All of the episodes were based off of stories from the old EC comics, and they were pretty accurately reproduced for the show. My favorite episode was Cutting Cards about the two gamblers that hate each other. They end up betting body parts per hand of poker. First the loser loses a finger, and at the end they're both in a home with no arms or legs, lol. Great show.

Yeah, that's a good one. Also, the episode "And All Through The House" The wife kills her husband on Christmas Eve, while at the same time a nut escapes from the local asylum and steals a Santa Claus costume. Before she can dispose of the husbands body, the escaped lunatic shows up. She wants to call the cops, but can't because there's her dead husbands body.(don't know why she didn't tell the cops the lunatic killed him)
Anyway, eventually she gets rid of the body and is going to call the police when she sees the door open. And here comes her daughter in the door with the lunatic Santa, saying "Santa's here mommy, I let him in"!! Great stuff.

I think I actually remember that one, kaveman, as well as a few others. I would rewatch the series, if I had the chance, but since the episodes are kind of old, I don't want to ruin my good memories of the show by seeing how badly it might have dated. I've done that with a few films from my younger days and I can't look at them the same way any more.

I own the entire series on DVD, and to me anyway, it's aged fine. Unlike Tales From The Darkside that SyFy runs occasionally.
That has not aged well, at all, lol. I still watch them when they're on for the nostalgia value, but...they're pretty bad today. Some are really good, but for the most part, not so hot.

I suppose that "Tales from the Crypt" never took itself seriously, so they've never overtried with the most modern special effects techniques, which, in many cases, age terribly. I noticed that the simpler the appraoch to the effects is, the better the film ages.

I noticed that the simpler the appraoch to the effects is, the better the film ages. I agree. I posted about The Amityville Horror from the 80's and that movie is great, as a ghost story. No high dollar visuals, just a gripping story. And I still watch it every time it's on. Love that movie.

I agree too about it helping Tales a lot in the simplicity of it. I mean, these were based off of the campy 50's horror comics and they translated them well I thought. Plus the fact that it was an HBO series helped I think. Not going to put a ton of money into special effects that would be dated looking now I think, but rather on getting the big name talent of the time to star in the episodes.
I wish I got the Chiller Channel, they run the episodes all the time.

I thought HBO did an excellent job making the EC stories into a TV series. Like I said earlier, they really do stand the test of time. Simple, and to the point.
And, I agree about the talent, although I bet a lot of them didn't demand a lot of money to do the show. For most of them, horror wasn't their genre, and they probably just wanted to try it out and have fun doing it. I don't have Chiller either. I have the series on DVD, but it's nice to just catch it on TV...cause sometimes I'm really lazy about digging through my DVD collection to find them, lol.

This was another reason for me to stay awake as a kid, I loved watching tales from the crypt, as it was always something different, and there was always a twisted point to the story, which for my young mind was just great
