Would you pay $1m for a murder scene? * D.C. townhouse where German socialite, 91, was strangled and beaten to death in the bathroom by her 'toyboy husband' goes on the market * Viola Drath was strangled and beaten to death in the posh Georgetown home and her much younger husband Albrecht Muth is accused of the crime * Drath's heirs are asking $995,000 for the three bedroom townhouse By Daily Mail Reporter The Washington, DC home where German-born socialite Viola Drath was brutally killed at 91 is now for sale. Drath’s heirs placed the three-bedroom townhouse in posh Georgetown on the market for the bargain price of $995,000. But since Drath’s own husband, the much younger Albrecht Muth, is accused of strangling and beating her to death in the bathroom at 3206 Q Street, they may still be asking too much. According to the Washingtonian, an adjoining townhouse in the sought after neighborhood recently sold for half a million more. However, the 2011 crime received extensive media coverage thanks to the late journalist’s name recognition and her younger husband’s reputation for bizarre behaviour, which likely dealt a blow to the home’s value. Is the home really worth a million? I'd think that a murder of any kind would reduce the value of a home at least $750,000.00 since it was a well known-ish person.
.... I'd offer 20 bucks for it. That's all I got. But I got it and I got it in cash! Well, rolls of pennies, but I rolled them for ya!

There is a poll at the top of this thread, I'd love to see how you all vote.

I was going to go with number one, but ultimately I went with number two, because I'm cheap and I would think a murder in the home would help drive down the value. The last option caught my eye as well, but I really don't believe in ghosts and all...I'd like to, but I don't. So, the fact that a death occurred there would be nothing more than a cool conversation starter, and that's not really a perk for me. Saving a lot of money however...

Hell, the value of the house is going to drop by having me in it anyway, so I might as well haggle for the best price, right? Went with option 2.

Attention bargain shoppers, how about purchasing 108 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, NY (formerly 112 Ocean Avenue.) It has undergone some cosmetic renovations (no more iconic attic fan windows) in addition to the house number change and has changed hands several times over the years since the Lutz family moved out. Would you buy it for a good price and would you be comfortable living there with your family? Just curious.

I'd definitely buy the Amityville Horror house if the price was good, and I'd be bummed out that the windows that were a big part of the iconic status of the house were gone. I don't know why they'd change the windows and the address, the Lutz's themselves said they fabricated the whole thing. I'd have no issue living there whatsoever. Of course, I can't pay for a cup of coffee at the moment so the house could be inhabited by the darkest demons of hell, I wouldn't be able to afford it to find out.

I'd never buy that place for one reason and one reason only. I never want to live in Long Island.

They removed the fan windows and had the house number changed because of all the lookie-loos and nut-jobs who were drawn to the house, especially on Halloween (guilty as charged). Back in the late 70's, a group of friends and I drove out there on Halloween night just for sh!ts & giggles, but we couldn't find the block. We stopped a lady walking her dog and asked her if she could tell us how to find Ocean Avenue (we didn't give a street number because we didn't want her to know we were total morons). She said "Oh you're looking for the Amityville Horror House aren't you?" But it was the way she said it - very creepy like. We just drove away and decided to give up on our search. We got wasted, pigged out and drove home. All in all, a very productive Halloween night. LOL

I wouldn't want to live in the Amityville Horror house, even though the Lutz's made most if not all of it up. Don't want to take a chance. As far as another house that had a murder in it? Not sure.
I chose option 2 any way, but only because of the bargain. Makes home buying more appealing, in that sense. I still don't know though. Thinking about American Horror Story: Murder House and similar things put me off from doing just that even if it were free. I'm sure my girlfriend would feel the same way. She already thinks her apartment is haunted.

I might check them out and walk through them, but I would not buy any of them, just being honest.
