I know it's not Halloween yet, but I just can't wait. It's that time of year. Days are getting short, air is getting crisp and cold, leaves are falling, no matter how much pollution is in the air it still smells good, and Halloween is right around the corner (unless you're a big market store, then you've been celebrating Halloween since July).
So, being in that mood today, I had to watch the Dawn of the Dead remake. One of the best remakes ever (and such a high benchmark for Zack Snyder, it was pretty much downhill from there bar 1 or 2 films). Probably the only remakes to top it are Maniac '13 and The Thing '82. It's on their level, though.
Anyway, sitting there, watching this for who knows how many times, I just get a good feeling from it. Yes, yes, fast zombies, I can see how that would put people off, but since it was so early in the plague, it makes sense in the beginning of the film. I agree, later one as these corpses had time to bloat, fall apart and experience rigor mortis, they should have slowed down towards the end of the film. Nonetheless, that doesn't hurt the film for me.

I'm getting choked up reading your post. I love this time of year and Halloween, though the title "holiday" has yet to be bestowed upon it, is my favorite day of the year bar none. I think the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead is a fantastic movie and one of the best remakes ever made. I know there are purists who rip it for not being enough like the original, but a good movie is a good movie and this took the 1977 movie to the next level IMO. I love it and now I want to watch it. Good stuff man. This is gonna be the best Halloween ever here when this is happening before the 31 Days even starts, I love it!!

This is definitely one of the best remakes out there. Fun movie that kept the spirit of the original but still did its own thing.
