Watching this as the first movie in my 31 Nights of Halloween marathon, and it dawned on me that films aren't this caliber anymore. Which is sad, because this came out in 1932. It's over 80 years old, and it blows most other movies away. A pure classic, amazing looking film. If you are a fan of cinema in general, you must watch this movie.
And you didn't have to pay $30 to see it.

Definitely a must watch for me. One I need to own eventually as well.

I remember reading about it a few years ago. Had to watch it, and wanted to own it ever since. I was so happy to see it was getting a Criterion release. Bought the DVD over BD because I read the BD was too sharp, and a lot of the bubbles and bumps you get with an 80 year old film shows too much for the sake of clarity.
This was the first thing I picked up when B&N was having its sale. Literally, the first DVD I looked for and took into my hands.

A lot of those old films are ones that blow away the movies of today. This, Carnival of Souls, and Metropolis are timeless masterpieces.

Films that set benchmarks. Why I had to buy Godzilla, the Blob, On the Waterfront and Lord of the Flies. Those are just films that leave a mark, even to this day. Man, I need the Criterion Carnival of Lost Souls. I think there's gonna be another sale come November, gotta get it then for $20. And I need to get Metropolis, I just don't know which one to get. I feel like I need to buy 3 different discs with that one just to make sure I got the complete vision. Which wouldn't really bother me, actually. Well, this is strange. There's a short film on this disc made by the band Devo. Supposedly inspired by Island. I don't see it yet, but we'll see. At least the music is good so far. To think they wanted to do Godzilla as stop-motion, but it was far too expensive. I wonder how different of a film we would have gotten, and if Kaiju films would be what they are today? Pretty interesting to think about.

No problem. I advise picking up the Criterion set, because everyone should own it.

It was a great way to kick off the season. Going with a classic that still holds up to today's standards. Even more so considering this was all practical and how everything is CGI today.

Sucks that Amazon has had 2 Criterion sales in the last month, but this movie wasn't on the list. Boo!

Dude. Why I went to B&N. No restrictions. Even half price Art House Essentials (which are slightly more barebones versions of Criterions).

Ok, I own it now. This was too good not to go find. Not in HD or anything, I'm way too broke for that, but I have it.
