While there are a few gems out there, it's mainly miss rather than hit. A lot of decent stories, but marred by poor acting or even poorer CGI based graphics. Not that CGI is bad, but a balance is needed.
I do wish more horror films would be fun like Hatchet III was this year. That was a great time, and more films should strive for that, I think.

Yeah, I'd have to echo that. There are some newer ones out there that are good and a lot of fun, the Hatchet series being a great example and Cabin in the Woods was a great one as well. The genre has been overloaded with remakes the last few years, some good, some not so much. I'd like to see the focus change to more original movies and I'd love to see more go with really well done practical effects but in this day and age both points are asking a lot. Still, I liked the Evil Dead remake and Maniac was great. Plus, there has been some decent indie stuff I've seen, so not too bad overall.

Pretty much what they said. There have been a few really good ones like Hatchet, Cabin in the Woods, The Taint, Rammbock, Midnight Movie, and a handful of decent (if unnecessary) remakes.
Right now between the endless remakes, found footage, and seemingly nonstop barrage of horrid to mediocre zombie films, it could definitely be better. I also would like to see a return to more practical effects, some original series, and more hard R horror.
