I mean, keep the light on at night thriller. Keep a knife under your pillow thriller. Put the book in the freezer thriller, if you get the reference.
I've yet to find one (haven't read many novels in the genre, only comics), so I'm curious to see what other people have found.

Early King is very good. The Shining is a good one off hand. If you want to ease into reading him his short story books are great. Some really good ones, one to check out is The Breathing Method in Different Seasons. The Exorcist is a very scary read as well.

I sadly don't read books. Do Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark count? Facked me up as a kid.

Those books were one of the greatest parts of my childhood, loved them.

I read the shining. It was good but hardly scary. I spent the entire book wondering when something chilling would end up happening. :c I'll look at the others, though. :3 And gasp, NDX, no books? The horror!

The horror! Not scary? What about when Danny is in the tunnel at the playground in the snow and something is in there with him? Or the snow falling off of the hedge animals as they moved ever so slightly? Or the woman in room 237?? What about her theanneh??? I guess scares are different for everyone. The Breathing Method is classic King and a great story. Even if you don't find it all that scary, if you like a great twist, you'd like the story...especially the end.

Oh and try this one...really short, but scary as crap. linkThis is the auto-scroll one, right? I've sent this to soooo many people omg. And the woman in 237 was the only thing in that book that was creepy. I like subtle but it was way too subtle. How are hedges scary. I just don't get it.

Cause they were hedge animals and they came to life, that's pretty scary. I can't get anyone on that web story...

They're hedge animals. You burn them. They're flammable. They're like, sticks and leaves and stuff. Even when the guy was being attacked by them it was like, "ow, I got poked by thorns. Here's some gasoline and a lighter. I win."
On another note, I cannot spell. I tried to spell flammable and got it wrong. I right clicked and spell check was like, "ish man, idunno. Did you mean flamingo?"

But Danny was a kid who was already scared to be at the hotel and didn't want to be there. Between the dead kid in the tunnel and the hedge animals, that was some creepy stuff. It really was, I'm not just saying that.

I honestly do not remember a dead kid in a tunnel. I literally just finished that book and I don't remember that at all. Anyway, I don't know why that didn't scare me. I have zero tolerance to thrillers. None. I was expecting it to scare me. It was interesting but I fell asleep reading it quite a few times.
Right now I'm just looking for a book that will keep me up at night... or at least have to sleep with the light on.

Clive Barker's Books of Blood might do it. Haven't read them in years, but some of the stories were really scary.
