Any fans of HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE on here? I was watching Season 1 again last night, and it might just be one of my favorite things ever. While the show isn't strictly "horror", per se (unless you consider something like SE7EN to be horror, which I do), it's extremely dark, full of occult goings-on, and the whole thing carries a Southern Gothic tone so rich in atmosphere and mood you can almost smell the swamp and feel the mosquitos biting your arms (the latter appeals to me the most, as that's the kind of stuff I enjoy reading, writing and watching more than anything else these days).
The director is getting ready to shoot a feature film adaptation of Stephen King's IT in a couple of months, and I can't wait to see how that turns out. His style should make for a really, really creepy movie.
Now bring on Season 2, with an all new location, cast, and case to solve! I can't wait.

I've sadly no HBO and I really want to watch this show. If I ever run across it for a great price or at the Salvation Army store like I did True Blood season 1 (which I've yet to watch), I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up and watch it.

Hopefully when season two starts they'll add season one to either Hulu or NetFlix, heard a lot of good about it.

I've only seen the first season. I've heard mixed things about the second season, but the third season is supposedly good again.
I love Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in this. Michelle Monaghan is great too.
True Detective may not exactly be horror, but it always seemed Lovecraftian. The first season any way. The Yellow King. The cosmic horror. Could easily fit in the Cthulhu mythos.
Great monologues done by McConaughey.
