19-year-old dies hours after being shot

Here's some true crime, and way too close to home for me.  

A 19-year-old man suffered a fatal gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon in this city's second homicide of the year, authorities said.



The victim, an Oakley resident, died several hours after being shot, Oakley police said. They did not identify the victim Tuesday night.



The Oakley Police Department and Contra Costa sheriff's detectives are investigating this case as a homicide.

This happened literally about 5 minutes away from my house.  Ugh, I hate how all of the crap from the next town over is slowly making its way out here.  This area has always been a relatively quiet place, at least for the past almost 6 years that I've been out here and it's just in a slow downward spiral.  We are possibly seriously thinking of moving closer to my family though (which would be either PA or OK, most likely somewhere in the middle, since my dad lives in PA and my mom and brother & his family are in OK).  Stuff like this just makes that possibility more definite.

That's a shame, and I know how you feel. We live in the sticks and it used to be we only read about real crime happening in the cities, not in our area. But, lately it's getting worse and I'd like to move myself.

Exactly.

I think moving is our best bet also, and we'd be saving a ton of money too because of how much cheaper the houses are, compared to here. But it all depends on my boyfriend's job though, because I can work from anywhere, as long as I have an internet connection.

He keeps coming back to the idea of Texas though, which annoys me because I really don't want to live there (again). Though yes it would be so much closer to my family and I wouldn't miss out on seeing my nephew as much as I do from here... but yeah. I dunno. It's a big decision either way.
