Injured Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is likely out for the season, according to one doctor. Dr. Anders Cohen, the chief of neurosurgery at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, thinks it is highly unlikely that Manning, who recently underwent a third neck procedure in the last 19 months, will play a game this season. "Surgeons initially tried a less invasive approach, but the single level anterior fusion he just underwent is a more definitive procedure that will correct the problem but requires a longer healing process." Dr. Cohen said in a statement. "It's highly unlikely that he will play this year since this procedure requires at least a three month recovery and he would then need to get back into shape." Manning underwent a single level anterior fusion on Thursday -- first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen -- and will need at least two to three months to recover from the surgery. One of the main issues is that neck injuries can typically cause longer recovery periods, as well as players not wanting to return too quickly and risk further injury. Dr. Rick Delmarter, medical director of the spine program at Cedars Sinai, told the Los Angeles Times that football players need their necks to be fully healed and that "even three months could be rushing it." Due to the nature of the injury and subsequent surgery, Delmarter agrees with Cohen that Manning could be out the whole season. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if they decide to keep him out for the year," he said. He did add, though, that he'd be surprised if Manning's career was over due to the surgery. Manning had started 227 consecutive games for the Colts before the team ruled him out for its Sept. 11 opener against the Houston Texans. The decision immediately caused speculation that Manning's injury was worse than initially let on and that it was possible he'd be out for the season. Two Indianapolis area journalists reported it was likely that Manning would need another surgery and could be out for the season. That was followed up by Colts owner Jim Irsay reporting on Twitter that Manning would be out for "awhile." Manning has led the Colts to one Super Bowl victory and 11 playoff appearances -- becoming one of the most popular players in the NFL. "Peyton isn't just a great football player, he's a great man," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters. "He's done all the right things on and off the field." www.ibtimes.com/articles/211340/20110909/peyton-manning-out-for-season.htm

Bad news for the Colts and football fans in general. The season won't be the same for me without seeing Manning and Brady face off at least once.

I'm a die hard Skins fan, but I love watching Peyton play. I watch the Skins and DVR every Colts game, just to watch the man in action. Of course, on the rare times the Skins play them, I root for the Skins....but, most times...well I'm sure you know how it comes out, lol. He's Peyton freaking Manning.

The Colts basically say you suck to their back up QB Curtis Painter(and he does), then go and sign Kerry Collins out of retirement, and still they get trounced. Even if Peyton makes a full recovery halfway through the season, really won't be any reason to play him, unless they turn it around fast. He may as well just prepare for next season.

A like button would be sweet. I'll see if there's a code to add one.
BTW, the Colts are the underdogs going into this weeks game against the Browns. The Browns??? Wow. Amazing what one guy does for a team.
