I have never seen any of the It movies! Would you recommend I watch the original before the 2007 movie or would it be ok to watch the remake without seeing the original?

I don't guess it matters, neither adhere strictly to the book. I'd watch whatever is available to you first.

Well I decided to watch the remake first, even though others told me nobody could do better than the original. I enjoyed it! It scared my wife quite a bit but she doesn't do scary movies, so i have to make her watch them! haha She is wanting to go watch chapter 2 though!

Really want to see chapter 2 as well. The original is great, especially for a made for TV mini series. It was pretty scary and the cast was awesome, especially Tim Curry as Pennywise.
The book, if you've never read it, gets really weird towards the end. The mini series did too, so it will be interesting to see how chapter 2 of the new movie handles the ending. I really liked chapter 1, but just like The Shining movie and the mini series remake, there were some things I liked better in the original and some I liked better in the remake.
You may find the mini series of IT on TV somewhere, especially given it's almost Halloween. It's a good watch, I love it. Definitely recommend seeing it, but when you do, you'll see what I meant about it not really mattering what order you saw them in.

I probably prefer the remake over the miniseries. Both have their faults, and both have their strengths. I just find more strengths in the remake. At least the first chapter.
Only Tim Curry can play Pennywise though.
Also, I loved all the old TV stars showing up in the original movie as the adult version of the kids.
The kids' story will always be more frightful and interesting than the grown ups' story though.
