So my car is officially dead, as of today. See, last Thursday night my hubby was in a car accident while on his way to pick me up from work (which means that I was NOT in the car with him, which I’m thankful for, because I would probably still be in the hospital right now if I had been), because some b!tch didn’t know that red meant STOP, and long story short, my car ended up being classified as totaled. (Hubby is fine, btw, he’s got soreness all over and his knee hurts & it could have been a lot worse) So now I have a couple days to find something new, and I’m totally having issues because this was thrust upon me without much warning. And it’s different than the last time I bought a new car because back then I was still working from home and I was the only one driving it, to and from the grocery store mostly, a couple miles away. Now, the hubby and I carpool in either of our cars every day (around 85 miles round-trip) and I’m quite a bit smaller than him, so I want to find something that’s bigger (and safer) for him to be comfortable in as well. Anybody have any ideas that I can look into quickly? If I go with an SUV, I’m thinking Subaru Crosstrek, Jeep Compass or Hyundai Kona. Kinda more towards the Kona since it’s a smaller SUV, so it won’t feel huge for me to drive all the time. I’m considering cars too, but again, it has to be bigger than my old Hyundai Elantra. I keep going back and forth and I really don’t have time to do this, as I have to make a definite decision at the weekend.

I drive a Chevy Traverse which is a decent size. Might seem a bit big for one person, but not really. Plenty of room though.

Sorry to hear about your car ✶April✶, thank goodness your husband wasn't seriously hurt. Hyundais are reliable vehicles, and Suburus are very well known for their safety, but at a higher price point. The Hyundai Kona is a nice looking SUV, and I'd probably go with something like that if we were looking for an SUV. We rented a Hyundai Santa Fe a few years back to drive to Florida on vacation, around the same size as the Kona, and it was awesome. Not too big, but not small either. It's a tough decision, and I'm partial to Hyundais and Hondas, both of ours have been really reliable. But, in the end it comes down to what you'll like driving. Try some out, you'll probably know the right one as soon as you drive it.

That looks huge. I think probably too big for me though. Thank you for responding either way! Sorry to hear about your car ✶April✶ , thank goodness your husband wasn't seriously hurt. Yeah, the Elantra was our 3rd Hyundai, but after seeing the way it crumpled, I think I want something heavier. We stopped by the Subaru dealership tonight, but yeah it was a bit pricey and I didn't really see anything that caught my eye. From there we went to Volkswagen and test drove a really nice GT Passat, but turns out it only gets 23 mpg highway, so that was out. I finally found a car that I got excited for though, for the first time since we'd been looking... the new 2020 Jetta. I put a refundable deposit down so they will hold it for me until Saturday when we have more time to go actually test drive it and everything. If we both like the way it drives, that's probably what we will end up buying.

Glad you found something you like, but isn't the Jetta a smaller car? I mean, not small, but not SUV size? Regardless, it's your car and if that's what you like, go for it. Hope it lasts you a long time. My Honda looks like crap, but it's got 250,000 miles on it and still going strong. I love that car.

Yeah it's not SUV sized. I was going back and forth between another car or jumping to an SUV, because I really don't like driving a larger car, but I would have made an exception if the hubby didn't feel comfortable in a car. And yeah, the Jetta may be about the same size as my old car, but it's built like a tank, much heavier, I can tell that just from opening the door. and the hubby says that it has enough room for him and he likes the car as well, so I really think that's what we will go with tomorrow, granted that we both like how it drives. We are planning on stopping by the Honda and Mazda dealerships first though, just to see what they have.

A Volkswagen is a good car too. Whatever you decide on I just hope you;re happy and it lasts you a long time. I think pretty much any car nowadays can be expected to last a fairly long time with the way they're built anymore.
But, it's still a big decision, so you're definitely smart in seeing all of your options. Good luck!

We did test drive the new Accord this morning and that was my #1 backup, it was roomy enough and the hubby liked how it had a lot of "get up and go" .. plus I loved the look of the pop-up entertainment module, without all the buttons everywhere that makes everything look cluttered. But in the end, we did end up going with the VW. And I love it! It also can remember the exact seating preference for each driver, which I LOVE, because I always complained about that, since the hubby and I switch off driving and I could never seem to get the seat adjusted exactly the way I had it before.. lol. We were testing it earlier and he switched the driver back to me and the seat started moving, which scared me a little because I have to sit REALLY close to the steering wheel and he sits much farther back.. haha. They even put a bow on it: Anyway.. I'm glad the whole process is over now.
