“For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials.
With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer (Colman Domingo) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.”

I am really interested in this one. Not exactly a remake as it turns out. A continuation. The lead character being the baby "Helen" kidnaps in the original movie. Even the actress who played the baby's mother is back. She's the one in the trailer who says, "No," to saying Candyman's name. Really, really great idea.

I'll be checking it out if theaters are open by then. Not the biggest fan of this franchise, but hopefully a new director can make this more interesting.

I've seen the original a few times and possibly one of the remakes although can't be too sure.
I think this will be interesting with Jordan Peele involved as he will put his spin on it and make it relevant. It also helps that he isn't the typical hollywood director horror movie wise e.g. who would turn the film into just generic e.g. like the remake of day of the dead. I loved Get Out but need to watch US - watched some of it and it was okay, but didn't think it was as good, but as I never finished it (had it free for only a limited time) I can't fully judge it.
It does kind of look like a kind of soft reboot as well as a continuation which could be interesting

There were some good ideas in here, but overall I found the movie very meh. The majority of deaths are done off screen which sucked, there's some shitty CGI, and Tony Todd is regulated to a 20 second cameo at the end. Disappointing.

I like the original movie a lot, and found the sequels entertaining, if not better, to say the least. I have not been too impressed by the many remakes Hollywood has been throwing at us over the past couple of decades. After seeing certain remakes of "Psycho," "Carrie," "The Dead Zone," "Children Of The Corn," "Night Of The Demons," "Nightmare On Elm Street," to name a few, then hearing too many negative things about a lot of the others, I decided to take their words and not bother with those remakes. The original "Candyman" is one of my favorites in the classic horror genre, and so are the others mentioned above. I don't honestly know if I want to see another one of my favorite classics getting another slap in the face by another cheap crappy looking remake.

I'm not a fan of remakes for the most part. Not all have been terrible, but overall, I've been disappointed with the ones I've seen. I've said before that it seems like remakes are made today because people can't come up with anything original, or are too lazy to. And it seems that so many think they can improve on an original not understanding that the things they think they're improving are the exact things that make the originals classics to folks. Like I said, some remakes I've enjoyed, not necessarily felt they improved on the original, but at least enjoyed them. But, more often than not, I end up hating them.
