Basically it is I don't have any. It's often a mystery to me. But I'm British. I'm sure people of other countries don't understand some of our sports. Like Cricket, a game where you can play for five days and still draw. We have something that sort of resembles American Football, it's called Rugby. There are two types: Rugby Union and Rugby League. I like Rugby Union. As well as liking the general way it is played, it is also full of muscular men, and it is often very, very violent and bloody. After all can you name another sport where you can play 80 minutes and end up looking like Frankenstein's Monster? www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/gallery/wales-players-wounds-after-scotland-15950725Both Rugby Union and League are great for fights:

Yeah, our football players would probably get ejected from the game for fighting like that. Big and strong guys and I'm sure many are legit tough, but nothing like this going on during a game.
We do, however, have hockey. It's played on ice and often times they have some good fights, it almost seems like it's encouraged. The fans definitely love seeing the fights. They wear a lot of pad and helmets cause ice, but they still have pretty good fights.

This thread looks like I only watch Rugby for the violence. Haha. I don't really. You don't have to supply me with other examples. Here is another game. It's very ancient. It's a "football" match played by a mob in a town called Ashbourne, on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday every year. There are two teams: The Up'Ards and the Down'Ards (local dialect for "upwards and downwards"), from different areas of the town. They might be hundreds in each team. If you watch you will see they score a goal by banging the ball on a millstone incorporated in the goals three times, you can only do this by being in the river. the game is played from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm over two days. Goals are rare. The rules are here along with a history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Shrovetide_Football

I don't think I'd enjoy that very much, lol. Looks like it's definitely action packed though. Probably a lot of pride taken in winning, as old as it is.
There is actually playoff football on here today. 2 games today and 2 tomorrow. This time is the bast part of our football season to me. I don't watch all that much during the regular season anymore, so I really look forward to the playoffs. This weekends games will decide which teams are in the conference championship games.
If you were interested in seeing how many commercials and how little playing actually occurs, the games are online to see.

I know it lasts ages due to commercials. How long is the Superbowl? Do you have a favourite team?

I'm curious if people have certain routines they do around the commercials?

The Super Bowl is a standard length game, 60 minutes. Which comes out to 3 hours of so with commercials and all. Some award stuff here and there and guest speakers, announcements, the half time show. All said it still only has it's time slot and they do pretty good about keeping it to it.
My team is Washington because I grew up in the area. I don't know if I actually have a favorite team any more. I root for different teams every year in the playoffs and championships. Just love a good game and a deserving team.
As for commercials, I either refill my plate or go to the bathroom.

I just realised how stupid my what do you do while the commercials are on sounded. I seemed to be under the impression that there were so many and they went on for so long that people might do some other things while they are on alongside watching the game. And have some routines they have adopted. I also discovered when I did a quick search that some people actually tune in just for the commercials, as more effort is put into them than normal ones. I'm afraid I have no clue when it comes to the Super Bowl.

The commercials through the regular season are the same ones over and over again. The Super Bowl is when they go all out on commercials, guests and entertainment. The halftime show in the SB is usually over the top and a little too hip for me, but occasionally you get a good one. Usually impressive though.
Wish Metallica would do one.

Some of them are pretty decently funny.
