In the 1950s the Atomic Age had begun, and there was the fear of atomic destruction, as the Cold War was building up, and this fed into films. The horrors associated with atomic radiation included hidious mutations of men and animals. I was thinking of the film Them! In this film atomic radiation from the first atomic bomb test mutates an ant colony into giants. Can you name films that feature Atomic Horrors?
List them below. They can be products of bomb tests, or lab experiments, or even meteors from outer space. Anything where atomic radiation plays its part. They can be from any period, not just the 1950s. Here is the first, the film I mentioned earlier: Them!“We may be witnesses to a Biblical prophecy come true: ‘And there shall be destruction and darkness come over creation. The beast shall reign over the Earth’.” www.writeups.org/them-giant-ants-movie/

Them! was the movie that immediately came to mind, I think it's the one everyone thinks of when associating atomic radiation and horror movies, but there are many others. The Incredible Shrinking Man, Tarantula, The Blob came from outer space and even after the atomic age they continued. Not too long ago on Comet I watched a movie called Empire of the Ants with Joan Collins about bio-hazardous waste being dumped in the ocean and winding up on a remote island turning the ants into giants. Not a bad movie. Then there were The Hills Have Eyes movies.
Then, to get even more recent, there's a favorite movie of mine from 2006, Slither, about a meteor that lands on Earth and hatches an alien parasite. It's a fascinating subject really and very easily incorporated into the horror genre, even today. Probably at it's height during the 50's and 60's with the cold war, but still a terrifying subject now. Good topic, tons of examples to post on it.

I'll put them in a list here. You can edit it too if you are able. Please when posting a film say how the creature was created so I can put it next to the entry.

Atomic Horrors Film List: Them - Ants - Radiation from first atomic bomb test The Incredible Shrinking Man - Exposure to radiation and insecticide causes a man to continue to shrink Silent Scream Queen , I added to it in another post because most won't be able to edit your post. This way we can just copy and paste into a new post like in the movie marathon threads. Does that work OK for you? Don't want to mess up your plans for it.
