Metallica song supposedly written for Death Magnetic and then didn't make the cut. Needs some work, to me. It's OK, just needs tweaked in parts.

You can definitely feel the Death Magnetic vibe (a sound you can hear in all their songs off that album). I think if they keep this up their next real studio album will be a gem. I just don't want to wait another 6 years for it.

It'll be four years this coming Sept. and their usual schedule is five. So 2013 sounds like a good guesstimate. I have a feeling the next one may be the last. I hope not, I hope they have a few more left in them.
I just don't think they want to feel like they're caricatures of themselves. Heck, Lars pretty much is already.

They've been so since Load. They always were then. I thought it was kinda entertaining seeing them try to take themselves seriously and then not, until, you know, THERAPY!

I thought both Loads were great, and I loved S&M. St. Anger, while a lot of the songs would have been much better had they produced them right, I get what they were trying to do after the whole therapy thing.
You should still give Some Kind Of Monster a watch, great movie. I think Lars is the one that calls the shots on things like this, the therapy and all.
Oh, and Metallica just wrapped up their 4 San Francisco shows to commemorate their 30 years in music, and at one of the shows they brought Jason up on stage to play with them. Pretty classy act considering how shitty Jason was to them in the documentary.

No solos. NO SOLOS! One of the absolute worst albums I own, St. Anger is.

A Metallica album with no solos is not a Metallica album. Period.

Yeah, I think that was a Lars call as well. Felt solos were dated and he wanted the band to be current. So pissing off every true fan was the way to go? I think even Lars knows that was a bad idea now.

Current bands suck, so I guess Lars wanted to just follow the trend of not using any talent.

I just think the core of the band, James, Lars and Kirk felt like they had been left behind at the time. Nothing was working in the studio, they were fighting all the time. I think Lars felt like they needed a change, and they did. But not the change Lars went with. Had they released a Death Magnetic and gotten back to the heavy music rather than try to be who they weren't with St. Anger, that painful time may have never happened. Or maybe they needed to hear that it sucked to get them into line again. Who knows?
I just know as a fan, they seem the happiest and are enjoying themselves now, way more than they have in a long time. I just want Metallica. Nothing fancy. Just rip my face off with some good, heavy music. I think that would satisfy most fans, and it seemed it did with Death Magnetic. Now, get back in the studio and do another one like that before you all decide you're too old. Give me one more at least.
