Here's the trailer for this, which is said to be a prequel to Carpenter's film. Some of it looks alright but the CGI monster at the 1:43 mark is so much less viscerally effective than the ones from the original made of puppets and stewmeat. Lotta dislikes on that video, too: I hate to sound like a luddite but it seems like I'm not the only person who'd llke to see a return to old-school animatronics and puppeteering.
Edit: haha welp, upon closer inspection that was a fan-made trailer, here's ther official one:

Nice. I'm actually looking forward to see how they do this, script wise. I agree about the CGI today too. Rick Baker did it the hard way and it looked way better.

It looks really good, from what I can tell. I worry some that the CGI will be fake looking up close...but I'm pumped. My wife is even excited to see this movie. She loved the 1982 version.

That really looks good, but parts look a lot like the Kurt Russel film. I'm going out on a limb here and saying the dog chewing the cage survives, and he's what brings it to McReadys camp in the 82 version.

Ahh, good eye Superstar. I wonder if that is the dog that escapes and brings the thing to the US camp. Hmm, have to watch for that in the film.

Catch The Thing early, pick up the game on the way home. Play the rest of the day. Win/Win.

Oh crap. Right, I guess you won't. I'll make sure you see it, might not be pretty, but you'll see it.
