I am new here but decided to make a thread dedicated to rap, my favorite music genre. I'm down with all rap underground and indie. This may offend some people, but in reality, mainstream rap is absolute ish. So many people are rendered ignorant, rap-hating bigots because of the radio: only mainstream rap is played; songs with little to no meaning, repetitiveness, awful lyrics, bad blows, same old beats, and moronic emcees. That is why the underground is my ish. They are a whole different breed of rappers. Meaning, sometimes very deep messages, intricate and clever lyricism, exceptional flows, complex and multi-syllabic rhymes, advanced and interesting vocabulary, and the ability to make songs about anything, without the fear that your label will deny your album or the DJ won't play your track, no matter how violent or sexual or controversial the song is, makes the underground the ish. I listen to primarily hardcore rappers Tech N9ne and the rest of Strange Music, his own indie albel he founded in 1999, chock full of some of the best underground rappers and groups that have ever graced a mic--Krizz Kaliko (he's been runnin' with Strange since Day 1), Kutt Calhoun, CES Cru, Prozak, Big Scoob,¡MAYDAY!, Stevie Stone, etc. Hopsin, who was going to sign with Strange, puts out some good ish too with his own label Funk Volume. Another subgenre of underground rap I listen to is horrorcore; a subgenre that focuses on horror-themed lyrical content and imagery. I listen to Twiztid, Grave Plott, Mars, Scum, KidCrusher, Necro, Mr. Hyde, King Gordy, Esham, etc. Lastly, I listen to hip-hop/ rap-rock group Kottonmouth Kings whose band leader Daddy X founded his own label as well, Suburban Noize. They've been putting out great stoner songs for years, and I like their music and some other dudes from their label like Potluck and Big B. To sum this giant fakking post up, if anyone is interested in the music I like and wants to listen to some good songs, I can recommend some to you.

Post away. It's your thread. What does that mean? You told me I could share my musical tastes, so I did...

I'd appreciate some suggestions. I'm already familiar with Tech, Twiztid, Blaze and KMK. Just found out about Hopsin about a week ago and downloaded his albums a few days ago, so I'm going to give all those a listen.

More into metal myself, but this guy is really talented. Like the fact that he's older too. Good stuff man.

Yea, Tech's been rapping forever. Some say his prime was the Everready album, my personal favorite so far, but he keeps getting better and his prime might have yet to come.
And...Ooh, metal you say? Prozak (from Tech's label) has some good metal-influenced rapcore songs:

Kinda like a mix of Korn, Linkin Park, and rap. Liked it.

Yea, he's great. Glad he chose Strange over Psychopathic though, they've got good stuff but Strange was a better fit.

I find Prozak sounds better live than on record.

I know you'll enjoy it when you do. He has great stage presence and his voice is very good. Something about it just seems sorta lost when it's recorded.
