i know it sounds cheap going into a charity shop, but there are bargains to be had. if you have had any good finds, stick them up for us to see. i had a physio appointment last week and called in my local salvation army shop. i got the amityville horror for 29 pence and the entity for 49 pence. the best part was when i opened the entity up for a quick look and a old £1 note (no longer legal tender) was stuck between the pages.

You made out on that purchase, lol. I have no issue checking the Salvation Army for movies or what not. They need the money and I want the movies. Win/win.

i nearly left the entity where it was. i was glad i didn't. i wouldn't mind if i could pick some movies up from there, but they don't seem to have anything that interests me. i've never seen any horror movies.

I bought 60 Star Wars paperback novels, all brand new, for less than $40 total, plus several others for great prices. I even picked up the Zombie Survival Guide for free because I frequent the Salvation Army store near work. Picked up a few dvds over the last few months from there as well. It's worked out very well in the end.
Wish they had more art books, though. Or some collected comics and not just single issues.

I love shopping at thrift stores and yard sales, great places to find cool stuff. Lots of my books have come from those places!

I buy tonnes of VHS at thrift stores I love it. Hunting rare movies for cheap is my favorite thing about vhs collecting. Thrift stores have a set price you could find 555 for about a buck where as ebay it goes for 100's.

Holy ish, did I make out like a bandit today!
So, I picked up 5 comics from the SA store by work today for 3$. Okay, cool. Not something they usually have. 2 of the books are worth about 5 dollars each, and Excalibur graphic novel and DC Showcase: Bat Lash.
And then, I got these gems:
Enku, Itinerant Priest and Sculptor manga, lowest price on Amazon $25 and change. The Best of Wizard Basic Training How to Draw: Storytelling, which has a low price of nearly $30.
And then this, The Best of Wizard Basic Training How to Draw: Volume 1, which has one seller selling it for $70 and the rest for $129 up!
I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if they have more of these that they hadn't put out yet. My got, I've never found anything so valuable, and I was just buying it for the source material! And to think, I let my students touch it! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

You guys find the best stuff man. I work in the city, you'd think I'd find a SA store somewhere. The nearest one is almost 30 miles away near Suitland. And that part of town is unsavory to say the least. Probably have whatever I bought stolen before I got to the car.

What about a Good Will? Potential there as well.

Have to look up the locations of the nearest Good Will stores, not really familiar with where any are here. It's just so easy with NetFlix that I haven't checked into anything else. And now that NetFlix is done with all it's BS and price raising, etc., might be fine where I'm at. But, I'm all for helping out, and if Good Will has some decent movies, why not take them off their hands and put some money in the pot?

Also check the books. Book selection can usually work out well. I've probably dropped near $150 over the last year and half there. I might need them soon, come to think of it...

Good Will? How come?

Because I'm spending $150 in stores like SA and GW. Money I need for food, and rent, and electricity, and cable, and internet to brag about the books I buy.
Ah screw it, I'mma go back tomorrow!

you don't always get lucky with charity shops though. i spotted the stand in one i go into on a regular basis.
they wanted £5 for it and it was tatty. i offered them £2 and they refused.
oh well, their loss.
