Man this is a tough one. They're almost two completely different movies, only with common elements from both tying them together. The original had Price and a good haunted type story, the re-make had the CGI and was more in depth about the house itself containing evil spirits. And Jeffery Combs!! Even though it's more of a cameo by him. Tough. I like both of them, but I gotta go with the original. Been a favorite of mine since I was much younger and I guess just has a sentimental spot in my heart.

i remember coming across the 1999 film at a friends house and i put it down i just hated the cover lol it was one of those cardboard dvd cases drove me insane but after a year of it sitting on the self in the same spot in the plastic since he had bought it i had to tear it open and watch it and i enjoyed the heck out of it

Lee voted but didn't post which way he voted. Being that it's 3 to 2 for the original, guess he went for the original. More members would really make the polls more fun, lol.

Voted the original. The second one should have been called something else. Nothing like the original.

I saw the remake first, but the original just blows it out of the water. Both are enjoyable, but I can't bring myself to vote against Vincent Price.

I HAVE to go with the original here. I remember about 20 or so years ago, it scared the living hell out of me. It's a movie I hold close to my heart to this day. Love this film. The remake doesn't even hold a candle to the dvd case the original movie comes in. Use this poster as a wallpaper. i.imgur.com/H9Cf4.jpgBiiiiiig image.

I cast my vote for the oritinal because it scared the crap out of me when I was young and still remains, to this day, one of my favorite horror movies. Watching it many years later, I can see where the younger generation, who grew up with color TV and high tech CGI & Special FX would find it a bit tame and dated, but back in the day it was the pretty scary. That said, the remake, which I also think should have gone by another name because it is almost a completely different movie, provided plenty of deeply disturbing and creepy scenes of its own.

I agree. Wasn't really much tying the two movies together other than the name. The original is one of my all time favorites, though I'm partial to pretty much anything Vincent Price is in. As you said, the re-make was good in it's own right. But, yeah, given the sparse lack of similarities to the original, it really should have had a different title.
